Dear Ms Jerusha,
I whole heartily agree with every word you wrote. As a Nepalese growing up in Singapore in a multi racial society, one is always trying to find a sense of identity as a Nepali. We have many similarities in terms of cultures with other Asians and at the same time are bombarded with western influence in clothes, language and music. However at the same time we would like to be unique as a Nepali. Therefore when Night rejuvenate the traditional musical instruments and produce those stirring music, it rekindle our spirit and emotion of who we are. There has been mass migration of young people from all over Nepal eager to go overseas for economic reason. They have settled world wide and go back and forth to Nepal. Like my parents they often reminiscence about their family, friends, community and places they left behind. As Night explore traditional musical instrument from all Nepal and from different ethnicity of the Nepalese society it is reminder to us all as migrants in other countries, that we just Nepalese and our ethnicity is quite insignificant. (except within our family and friends) Therefore when Night travels overseas playing to Nepalese audience around the world it will be well received as they "modernise" these folk music/song and at the same time rekindling memories, emotions and being proud as a Nepalese. I also hope that people from other cultures will come forward to listen and appreciate these folk songs blend with western musical instrument. Around the world Nepal is identified by Mount Everest. The Gurkha soldiers are famous for being brave warriors. Perhaps now Night band can represent Nepal to promote music, art and culture of Nepal. Best wishes to Night.
